If you have stereo equipment from the 1970’s we are interested in hearing about it. If you are unsure how old it is, some telltale signs are if the faceplate is silver, if it doesn’t have a jack on the back labeled CD, and it’s pretty heavy. Major brands from that era include Sansui, Pioneer, Marantz, Kenwood, Realistic and Fisher, but there are many other smaller brands. If you have something you want us to take a look at, email tom@sandiegosolidstate.com.

We typically have several units available through Ebay at any given time. These range from fully refurbished to parts only. The condition of each is clearly described in the listing, but they generally fall into 4 categories

Refurbished

These items have had extensive work done in our workshop. It includes replacement of electrolytic capacitors, lights, known troublesome parts (certain transistors, diodes etc.), cleaning all relevant parts with Deoxit, and adjustment to factory specs where appropriate. All functions have been thoroughly tested and are functioning as described in the owners manual.

Repaired/Serviced

These items have had work done to certain functions which will be described in the listing. This could include a partial recap, light replacement, or other work to bring it up to full working condition. All repaired items have been treated with Deoxit, and DC offset/bias adjusted to factory settings where appropriate.

Used

Used items are fully functional, but no preventive maintenance or upgrades have been done. These are often items that come to us in good working condition and don’t warrant further work, or items with superficial issues such as case damage, lights out or minor scratchiness when adjusting volume or other controls.

For Parts

This category captures a wide range of items that have more than superficial problems. They may have major functions that don’t work such as FM tuning, significant physical damage, or they may not even turn on. Read the descriptions carefully to determine if the item could have value to you based on the functions that are working or the parts you may be able to salvage.
